If you haven’t read How To Carry Out Effective Keyword Research part-1, please read it before reading this post.
Long tail keywords are key phrases with up to three or more words. Long tail keywords can be use to refine search term to get specific and narrowed search results. If I’m searching for golf for instance, what I will type in the search box is golf, but the term golf is too general to give exactly what I need. To get a better search result, I might decide to use a more specific term, “how to play golf” or “learn how to play golf”. The two examples cited above are examples of how long tail keywords looks like. As a blogger, you need to focus more on long tail keywords than head keywords, especially if your blog is new because it is difficult to rank well for highly competitive keywords. Long tail keyword can make the difference if you optimize your posts for it.
Why You Should Optimize For Long Tail Keywords
Long tail key words help you to get targeted and unique visitors from search engine. It is a way to optimize your posts for users who are searching for a specific search term. You should optimize your posts for long tail keywords because it is low in competition and easy to rank. With long tail keywords you can find potential buyers who are ready to buy a product or ready to take an action. To make this point clear, let’s analyze how users might behave when searching for for a product and how it affects the kind of keyword you optimize your post for.
Car is going to be the keyword for this case study. Anyone searching for the word car might just be browsing about type of cars. But to get a potential buyer, you need to target long tail keywords which are more specific, and it looks like this, “cheap car” “where to buy cars at affordable price” and so on. From our definition of long tail keyword, it consists of more than one word. The combination of these words might even be a sentence; this sentence expresses the need for users and that is what you should be optimizing for.
